Les Heritiers Saint-Genys Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos Saint Jean
Les Heritiers Saint-Genys Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos Saint Jean - A refined wine of undeniable elegance.
Superb nose accompanied by a rich, rounded mouthfeel and delectable toasty notes. As an apéritif of course, but also with a rosé veal chop or as osso-bucco bianco.
Regarded as one of the best 1er Crus in Chassagne-Montrachet, Les Héritiers' 0.15ha single Clos Saint Jean vineyard is about half way up the slope (at the top of which are the marble quarries of the village). Soils are a complex combination of chalky marl, yellow or red clay, limestone screes and gravels onto which Chardonnay vines were planted nearly 40 years ago.
As with all Les Héritiers wines, harvesting is by hand with grapes sorted in the vineyard and placed directly into small drilled boxes, avoiding maceration before winemaking and limiting handling. Whole bunches are gently pressed in the renovated cellars in the heart of Chassagne-Montrachet itself. Matured for 14 months in oak barrels, 25% of which are new, the wine spends a further month in tank before bottling at the domaine.
