Keith Tulloch Shiraz Viognier - This is a truly fantastic and iconic wine. In this wine 9% Viognier, a white grape variety, adds citrus-blossom and honeysuckle perfume to the nose, and provides a powerful peachy smoothness. The core of this wine, the Shiraz grape, shows powerfully ripe plum and blackcurrant flavours and silky tannins. Although silky smooth and soft in texture, this wine will continue to develop well with cellaring for another 5 years.
There can be no other wines in my list more highly acclaimed than this Keith Tulloch classic.
The following comments from James Halliday, the Australian wine guru, say it all...
"I cannot remember being more impressed with an initial release of wines than those under the Keith Tulloch label. There is the same almost obsessive attention to detail, the same almost ascetic intellectual approach, the same refusal to accept anything but the best" and four years on they remain in his elite 5 star category. For those who may have tasted any legendary Hunter Shiraz wines of the 40's, 50's and 60's, tasting many of the modern Hunter wines can be a depressing experience but Keith Tulloch is very different, adding to that great legacy with a series of wines that uniquely capture the exotic spice and hedonistic pleasure of dense and rich Shiraz fruit in a medium bodied wine that has the sensuous, subtle velvety texture of fine Burgundy.
