Les Volets Chardonnay, Haute Vallée de l’Aude - The nose is hugely aromatic with candied fruit, apricots and orange peel are the first notes that then give way to hints of toasted hazelnut and buttery brioche. This reveals the secret of the quality chardonnays from this area - nothing overpowering, but the gentle oak touch is there. On the palate this wine is harmonious. The smooth, slightly nutty character leads on to gingerbread /tea cake flavours that are truly appealing. This is a wine with great balance – there is an underlying acidity that ensures longevity and elegance whilst the intense, opulent flavours fill the mouth without being clumsy or heavy. |
