The Charge Rioja La Bascula - Produced at Ramón Bilbao in Haro, from Tempranillo, Garnacha and Graciano, sourced from 7 different plots in Rioja Alta and aged 9 months in French and American oak. A succulent, vibrant red with upfront cherry and plum characters - this Rioja exhibits a lovely purity of black cherry fruit and well balanced spicy oak.
The dynamic duo, South African winemaker Bruce Jack, of Flagstone Winery, and Ed Adams MW hatched the plan to start La Báscula based on a shared passion for Spanish wine, tapas, Paella, flamenco... all things Spanish! Six years ago the first wines from Jumilla were created under the La Báscula name and since then their vision has steadily expanded to cover winemaking projects in Yecla, Rioja, Ribera del Duero, Catalonia and Alicante.
La Báscula meaning 'weighing scales' in Spanish is entirely appropriate as all the wines show a wonderful balance between high quality grapes from local varieties and world class winemaking. Bruce and Ed work with a handful of small, likeminded producers, including Juan Gil, to produce an varied range of modern Spanish wines with an innovative twist.
