Nebbiolo Martinenga - This is Barbaresco at a Nebbiolo price. The delicate perfume of strawberry and red berries is matched by crushed wild berries and black fruit on the palate.
Soft and riper in style than the 2006 with an appealing rustic warmth on the finish. Elegantly structured and well balanced.
This is declassified Nebbiolo wine from an excellent producer of Barbaresco. Di Gresy's well-sited land on the Martinenga hill south of Barbaresco, produces wine whose quality rivals that of much pricier bottles. This estate produces very stylish wines with a little more new oak influence than is traditional, but this does not overpower the pure and vibrant red fruit of Nebbiolo.
The wine is really enjoyable now and will be just wonderful in a year or so.
Ideal with roast lamb and robust meat stews.
