Domaine Fiumicicoli Rose, Corsica - This is one of my all time favourite rosés. Pale petal pink in colour, clean fresh aromatic nose, partly sweet exotic mango, partly fresh red fruit. Bold fruit flavours on the palate, quite different to Provence rosés - more exotic with hints of passion fruit, finishing with good length and structure. Altogether a softer style of rosé.
Domaine Fiumicicoli lies at the heart of AOC Corse Sartène, considered to be one of the best of Corsica's nine appellations, close to where the 13th Century Genoese bridge Pont de Spina Cavallu - pictured on the wine label - spans the river Rizzanesse. Vineyards rise up from the slopes of the river on sandy and granitic soil ideally suited to growing the traditional Corsican grape variety Sciacarello.
Founder Félix Andreani manages the 75 hectare vineyard with his son Simon. Vineyards are tended manually and, due to the proximity to the sea, benefit from the slightly cooler temperatures in this south west corner of Corsica.
