Gavi di Gavi Bruno Broglia - Broglia's top wine is really something very special from very low yielding 50 to 70 year old vines. It has great refinement and minerality on the nose, with a nutty savouriness on the palate. Concentrated and structured, it sets the benchmark for great Gavi.
Piero Broglia released his first wine from his father's La Meirana estate in 1974, but there is a record of vines at the property that dates back to 971 AD, the very beginning of the story of Gavi.
Broglia currently own around hundred hectares of land, of which half is under vine. This special cuvée comes from the pick of the vineyards: a parcel of Cortese planted in 1953 and 1955. Yields are very low, giving a corresponding concentration, and the grapes are hand harvested into small boxes to preserve that quality.
The grapes were pressed straight after harvest and then fermented in stainless steel at 18-20ºC. The wine is unoaked and was bottled after six months' maturation in steel tanks.
