Chapel Hill Verdelho - Rarely seen elsewhere, Verdelho was one of the first white varieties to be imported into Australia, in 1825. It is sourced from Chapel Hill's Kangarilla vineyard in the foothills of the Mt Lofty Ranges. Windier and at a higher altitude than the McLaren Vale floor, this district is the best to grow Verdelho in. There are distinctive aromatics of lime, lemongrass and herbs leading into a refreshing, medium-bodied palate with a dry, crisp soft and very smooth finish.
The first vineyard was established at Chapel Hill in 1973, although it was not until 1979 that the estate was named after the 1865 ironstone chapel that now serves as the winery's tasting room. The name has long stood for elegant expressions of McLaren Vale fruit, and the quality has risen and risen ever since. Winemaker Michael Fragos has twice been named ‘Winemaker of the Year' by Winestate and International Wine and Spirits Competition in 2007. It is not hard to see why...
