Sepp Moser Zweigelt Reserve - A really lovely wine from one of Austria's great red wine producers. This organic wine has attractive summer berry aromas with fresh tangy acidity. Lots of vibrant dark-cherry fruit on the palate with a touch of black pepper and clove on the palate. Decant to allow the flavours to blossom.
The Sepp Moser Estate was founded by the famous Austrian wine producing pioneer, Lenz Moser. Lenz Moser's son, Sepp Moser, began operating under his own name in 1987 and handed over the direction of this family-owned estate to his own son Nikolaus in the year 2000. All the wines now produced are 100% organic.
The Sepp Moser Estate comprises of 50 acres of vineyards in two prominent wine regions: Kremstal (22 ha) and Neusiedlersee (28 ha). All his reds are produced on the gravelly soils of the warm southern Neusiederslee village of Apetlon. The summers in this region are very hot and dry as the vineyards are less than 1 km away from the Hungarian border.
The grapes were de-stemmed and crushed followed by two days of cold maceration. The must was fermented on the skins in stainless steel (two weeks of skin contact) giving the wine good colour and extraction. Malolactic fermentation and ageing in 300 litre oak barrels (second and third fill) for 14 months adds complexity and texture. Drink over the next 8 years.
