Balgownie Estate Cabernet Sauvignon - From the iconic Bendigo winery, this is a solid, full-bodied Cabernet. Deep in colour with a bouquet of classic blackcurrant and tobacco leaf aromas with hints of violet and cedar. The palate has intense blackcurrant and tobacco flavours with rich fruit and fine persistent tannins providing structure and length. Needs food and can be kept for up to 15 years
In the late seventies and early eighties the Cabernet and Shiraz produced at Balgownie were widely considered some of Australia's finest. With the sale of the winery to one of Australia's well known multinationals, quality suffered, however their early reputation lived on and when the estate was sold again in 1998 it was picked up by Des Forrester, one of the wineries early devotees. Fortunately Des had deep enough pockets to restore the estate to its former glory and Balgownie resumed production of some of Australia's greatest wines. This current releases overseen by winemaker, Mark Lane, typify the house style and is, once again amongst Victoria's proudest, most sumptuous wines with concentration balanced by finesse. A wine whose unquestionable power is yielded in the most refined manner imaginable.
