Chateau Ste Michelle Columbia Valley Dry Riesling - A dry, crisp, refreshing style of Riesling with beautiful forward fruit flavours - white peach and mandarin - and a clean finish.
Château Ste. Michelle is the oldest winery in Washington state, with some of the most mature vineyards in the Columbia Valley, as well as control of an unrivalled proportion of that appellation's plantings. The varietal Columbia Valley wines offer a very consistent expression of the Washington style: with cooler nights yet longer sunshine hours than California, exuberant fruit is balanced by crisp natural acidity.
Fruit for this dry Riesling came from cooler sites within the Columbia Valley of eastern Washington. The 2007 growing season was warm at the beginning and had average temperatures throughout the rest of the season, with excellent ripening conditions. A heat spike just before bloom led to a smaller canopy which allowed more light penetration and contributed to overall good flavour development in the fruit. The hot temperatures also resulted in smaller berries with concentrated flavours.
