Chateau Ste Michelle Columbia Valley Chardonnay - Fresh, soft Chardonnay with an appealing citrus fruit character and subtle oak flavours. Creamy mouth-feel, with a clean, sophisticated and very long finish.
Château Ste. Michelle is the oldest winery in Washington state, with some of the most mature vineyards in the Columbia Valley, as well as control of an unrivalled proportion of that appellation's plantings. The varietal Columbia Valley wines offer a very consistent expression of the Washington style: with cooler nights yet longer sunshine hours than California, exuberant fruit is balanced by crisp natural acidity.
A prolonged fermentation of up to two months was followed by malolactic fermentation to add richness and complexity. The wine was barrel fermented for six months in French and American oak, of which thirty percent was new. Five percent of tank-fermented Chardonnay was added to the blend. To integrate the fruit and oak flavours, the wine was aged on lees for more than six months.
