Chateau Clos de la Cure, Grand Cru St. Emilion - An excellent example of St Emilion at its very best. This complex wine is opaque in colour and shows aromas of sweet blackcurrant leaf and a hint of cedar on the nose. Superb structure with solid, tight tannins and a long satisfying finish. Clos de la Cure is a beautiful walled vineyard of just over 6 hectares located near the old church of St. Christophe-des-Bardes, perched on the heights of the St. Emilion plateau, and is owned by the Bouyer-Arteau family. The vineyard shares the same soil structure as Château Cheval Blanc - gravel and clay with a proportion of iron-rich deposits - which gives an idea of its pedigree. 90 - 100% destemming (so sometimes fermented with a few stems left on for extra tannin), the grapes are left on the skins for three weeks during vinification. Ageing for 15 - 18 months in oak. Should match the richer flavours of game, free range poultry, beef or mature cheeses such as Gruyère. |
