Pazo de Monterrey - This delicious and enticing Spanish white is packed with fresh, seductive floral aromas, delicate camomile apple and pear flavours on the palate with a really vibrant and long finish. This is quality with a capital Q! This high quality un-oaked white comes from the Monterrei region of Spain which is situated just to the north of Portugal and quite close to the famed white wine region of Rias Baixas. Monterrei is a small region with a unique micro-climate and terroir. The best wines of the area are produced from a blend of Treixadura and Godello as this one is. This blend produces wines that are fresh and crisp and just a little petillant. The vineyards of ‘Pazo de Monterrey' are situated in the river basin of the Duero, at the confluence with the Támega river. The area's oceanic influence, and granite and slate soils have resulted in a wine with real elegance and longevity. Australian winemakers Nick Hatherly and Josephine Perry control the Estate's 25 hectares to produce this characterful Godello blend, brilliant with fish or lighter more delicate dishes. This rare gem of a wine is now a regular feature in the ‘All About Wine' fridge. |
