Stimson Estate Cellars Merlot - A medium-bodied, fruit-driven style of Merlot, with notes of cherries, plums and tobacco. Soft and smooth in the mouth with an appealing, rounded finish. I love this wine with Mexican cuisine!
If you're drinking a bottle of wine from the United States, chances are it's from California as over 90 per cent of US wine comes from here. However there are some real gems to be found elsewhere and the Chateau Ste Michelle winery which produce this wine in Washington State are a prime example. Washington's wine industry really does have a fabulous reputation for consistently delivering character-filled, smooth and beautifully structured wines.
Chateau Ste. Michelle is the oldest winery in Washington state, with some of the most mature vineyards in the Columbia Valley, as well as control of an unrivalled proportion of that appellation's plantings. Their wines offer a very consistent expression of the Washington style, where cooler nights and longer sunshine hours than California, produce exuberant fruit balanced by crisp natural acidity.
