Vista TR Tinta Roriz - Rich, ripe, generous, lots of dark and chewy fruit, good structure with no hard edges and good length. Stylistically it could be argued that it's about ¾ Portuguese and ¼ New world with the right blend of the best bits of both.
One of Portugal's largest and most progressive producers with 600 hectares spread across estates in five regions from Douro in the north to Alentejo in the south.
Winemaker Francisco Antunes oversees what must be one of the most diverse ranges in Europe, from the 3rd largest Portuguese rose brand (Casal Mendes) to some of the country's most impressive premium reds (with help from Michel Rolland and Pascal Chatonnet) from estates in Douro, Dao, Bairrada and Alentejo. Arguably, Francisco's greatest achievements lie between these extremes, a range of mid-priced wines from native varieties, full of character, quite distinctly Portuguese, but at the same time approachable and with fresh, modern fruit.
The Wine Spectator named Aliança one of its 'Top 20 Value-Oriented Wineries' in the world for 2005, the only producer selected from the Iberian peninsula - "This family-owned company is one of the most forward-thinking of Portugal's table wine producers. Quality has been on a steady march upward in recent vintages...Caves Aliança has several top-rated premium bottlings, but its values serve as a good introduction to what Portugal has to offer."
Vista TR is made from 85% Tinta Roriz and 15% Touriga Nacional grapes cultivated in Alianca's new 360 hectare Quinta d'Aguiar property in Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo in the region of Beiras. 80 hectares are now planted, mainly with Tinta Roriz and Touriga Nacional.
Fermentation and ageing takes place in stainless steel.
Serve at 16 to 18 degrees Centigrade with full-flavoured meaty stews, bangers and mash or barbequed meats.
