Bodegas Borsao Seleccion Barrica - Deeply chocolatey Garnacha rounded out with a lick of oak, this seems fairly straightforward but I've drunk gallons of it now and keep finding new corners of delight and spice and interest! There are ripe plum and red berry aromas with toasty, well integrated oak. A rich and generous wine with concentrated plummy fruit backed by fresh acidity and firm but ripe tannins. A really good depth of flavour with bitter chocolate, coffee, dried fruits and spicy vanilla notes. Produced from 25 to 30 year old Garnacha from selected vineyards at 600m altitude. The poor soils, low night-time temperatures and moderate yields give grapes with excellent colour, extract and acidity. This 2008 vintage has been awarded - Sommelier GOLD medal 2011. |
